A win in this race will take her prize-money earnings to a staggering $12.8 million, just short of the great record-holding Makybe Diva ($14.52 million).
Apart from the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup, this race is the richest run in Australia, but the presence of the mighty mare has turned it into another chapter in ‘her’ story.
This is now not about Sydney’s ‘The Championships’ or the quality of the race or meeting – it’s only about one thing and one thing only – WINX.
For racing fans to have lived in an era that has included four mares of the ilk of Sunline, Makybe Diva, Black Caviar and Winx is almost unbelievable.
All four great champions of an era, not to mention great champions of almost the SAME era.
And who is to argue that WINX could be the best of the lot?
Her record is staggering. Her oh-so-rare ability is hard to describe as she simply wins ‘everything’ she runs in and most times by a big margin.
Trainer Chris Waller openly says it’s a privilege for him to train her considering the ability she has.
Regular rider Hugh Bowman also has similar sentiments claiming he is just thrilled to be part of the WINX story.
He says the only pressure he feels on race-day is the fear of making a tactical error on her, as he says when it comes down to it, no other horse has the ability to beat her.
Again this race will be run on rain-affected ground.
At the time of writing the Randwick track was rated a ‘heavy 8’ with a chance of an upgrade if Sydney’s fine weather continues through to race time.
But if you look at WINX’S record, it doesn’t matter if the track is wet or dry, left-handed or right-handed or uphill or down – she handles everything with ease.
This week we have had the usual reporting of some huge punters having massive amounts on WINX at the $1.10 to earn some interest.
But for most of us it’s not about money – we can’t really make anything out of WINX, but what we can do is sit back and watch and marvel at her amazing talent.
And that’s what we’re left with tomorrow when the feature race of The Championships takes centre stage in Sydney.
It won’t just be Sydney watching in either – racing fans across the globe will be tuning in to witness first-hand the next chapter in the WINX show!
