Connections of Scales Of Justice have set their sights on the Melbourne Spring Carnival after the 4-year-old’s narrow victory in the Group 3 Strickland Stakes on Saturday.

Managing owner Chris Wells told TheWest.com.au that they will look at a number of races including the Toorak Handicap and Emirates Stakes.

The original plan was to take on Winx in the Cox Plate however connections now feel dodging the champion mare would be a better idea.

“He’ll have about five weeks off now and we’ll look at taking him to Melbourne,” Wells said.

“The Toorak would be good for him and maybe the Emirates, especially if Winx doesn’t go that way. Ideally we would go over for two or three races and then come back for the Kingston Town.”

Following the Melbourne Spring they also plan to target the Railway Stakes and Kingston Town Classic.

“We’ll see what weight he gets in the Railway. Good Project came back last year after winning the Railway and got 55kg.”

“Douglas Whyte said he’s an incredible miler,” Wells said.

“I think he’ll get 2000. I thought he might be a Caulfield Cup horse, but that looks a bit beyond him.”

Scales of Justice won the Group 1 Railway Stakes last year and fell narrowly short of completing the Ascot double in the Kingston Town Classic.
