Wellington Phoenix vs Newcastle Jets – A-League 2017 Round 24

Newcastle are now 6 games without a win and what was a promising year for the Jets has now turned into a slow crawl towards the end of the season. The Jets have leaked goals recently to the tune of 4 against Melbourne and 3 against Brisbane and only scored twice in their past eight matches.

It is no coincidence that the Jets played their best football when they were scoring, with a period between Round 10 and Round 15 where they scored at least two goals in every match. The Phoenix squad has been decimated by omissions with Glen Moss, Michael McGlinchey, Alex Rufer, Tom Doyle, Roy Krishna, Andrew Durante and Shane Smeltz all away on international duty.

A great opportunity for the Jets to rediscover some form having proven they can win away by defeating the Glory in Perth earlier in the season.

Previous Games: 2-0 (Wellington – Round 5), 2-2 (Round 12)
