Wimbledon champ Garbine Muguruza is the favourite to win the women’s championship and she’s got a good game for the hardcourts even though she has been brought up on clay in Spain.
Her style of play is good for her and would make her one of the favourites.
On the other hand, Simona Halep is one of the other top players and a good competitor.
Angelique Kerber is a good player but has been a little bit down in recent months.
Johanna Konta is another strong contender and I saw her play at Wimbledon and there’s no reason why she won’t go well. She has an aggressive game and a good serve.
World no.1 Karolina Pliskova is good on hardcourts but the winner is going to come from Muguruza, Konta or Halep.
Maria Sharapova was granted a wildcard into the championship and I think she’ll do okay, but I can’t see her winning the tournament.
I don’t think she’s played enough tennis since she has been out of the game.
She might have been practicing a lot but without match play, you just don’t feel the same way.
It’s good to see Aussie girl Ash Barty playing well and I can see she is really enjoying playing and enjoying the competition but I don’t see her winning the tournament.
However, she can certainly be competitive against the top players.
I’ll pick Muguruza and I think she’s got a lot of extra confidence in her game.
If she keeps her nerve and she’s 100 percent fit, there’s no reason why she can’t win her first US Open title.
