RACE 1.

LISTED $120,000 MARIBYRNONG TRIAL STAKES. 1000-metres.

SELECTIONS: 1 AKKADIAN; 11 Sunlight; 5 Sanglier; 3 Grand Challenge.

BEST ROUGHIE: 1 AKKADIAN.

SUGGESTED BET: AKKADIAN each-way.

ALL first starters here, lots of guess work involved, AKKADIAN looked very good beating Bold Type Cranbourne trials. Sure to have good ability. SUNLIGHT in hot stable, by boom first-season sire, trial win was very good. Hard to run down. SANGLIER is a Godolphin runner drawn the rail, also by new sire, bound to have good ability. GRAND CHALLENGE well-bred, good trial 2nd, in hot stable, will run well. Watch betting moves closely!

RACE 2.

LISTED $120,000 ANTLER LUGGAGE STAKES. 1400-metres.

SELECTIONS: 7 ESPERANCE; 6 Icon Of Dubai; 1 Taking Aim; 3 Chauffeur.

BEST ROUGHIE: 10 HULME.

SUGGESTED BET: ESPERANCE each-way.

ESPERANCE is a Godolphin runner, won first two starts impressively before 6th Catchy G2 Danehill, closing late. Good draw, fitter, distance increase a help. Hard to beat. ICON OF DUBAI is a well-bred colt ran 2nd Paret in a maiden before 6-length maiden win last time when looked very good. Rates highly. TAKING AIM has strong Sydney form, last start 4th in G2 Danehill, previous form very strong as well. CHAUFFEUR also racing well in Sydney.

RACE 3.

LISTED $120,000 UCI STAKES. 1800-metres.

SELECTIONS: 6 ANIMALIA; 4 Sunquest; 1 Cliff’s Edge; 3 Eshtiraak.

BEST ROUGHIE: 16 CORAL COAST.

SUGGESTED BET: ANIMALIA to win.

GETTING out in distance has been the key to ANIMALIA, huge maiden win before break, resumed with 3rd then runaway win Class 2 Newcastle 1600m. This trip even better. SUNQUEST has been running on in his races, last time 2nd Caulfield. Go well. CLIFF’S EDGE enjoyed run of race still too good Caulfield. Has a chance again. ESHTIRAAK ran well-backed fav last time when held-up, out too late, fair run. Worth lot of thought this trip.

RACE 4.

GROUP 2 $200,000 GILGAI STAKES. 1200-metres.

SELECTIONS: 4 SPIETH; 6 Silent Sedition; 1 The Quarterback; 7 Bons Away.

BEST ROUGHIE: 2 ULMANN.

SUGGESTED BET: SPIETH to win.

SPIETH is a brilliant sprinter from NSW, won 5 of 13 with four seconds, resumed with brave 2nd Redzel G3 Concorde. Fitter, handles this straight track, hard to beat. SILENT SEDITION high class mare resuming, won G1 William Reid MV before 4th in G1 Queen Of The Turf, Randwick in April. Hard to beat. THE QUARTERBACK great straight-track horse, Newmarket winner here, resuming, last raced 12th of 12 MV G1 William Reid in March. Respect.

RACE 5.

GROUP 1 $500,000 TURNBULL STAKES. 2000-metres.

SELECTIONS: 2 WINX; 1 Humidor; 3 Ventura Storm; 4 Assign.

BEST ROUGHIE: 3 VENTURA STORM.

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta in order: 1 – 2 – 3.

THE great WINX is shooting for her 21st consecutive win in this race, this is her first time to Flemington but track and trip should be perfect. The legend should go on! HUMIDOR is a very serious galloper. Thrashed Hartnell last time this track G1. Distance perfect, won Australian Cup this track/trip in the Autumn. A genuine challenger. VENTURA STORM is an import improving all the time. Looks best of the others.

RACE 6.

GROUP 2 $200,000 EDWARD MANIFOLD STAKES. 1600-metres.

SELECTIONS: 4 LEATHER’N’LACE; 7 Banish; 14 Temple Of Bel; 9 Uptown Gal.

BEST ROUGHIE: 6 BLONDIE.

SUGGESTED BET: BANISH each-way.

LEATHER’N’LACE has been impressive winning past three starts, latest led throughout Caulfield 1400m after working hard early. Huge chance again. BANISH won two on end before 6th Shoals, MV, then charged home when 3rd Leather’n’lace Caulfield last time. Eye-catching effort last time, hard to beat here. TEMPLE OF BAL lightly raced but shows serious ability. Huge maiden win last time, respect in this class now.

RACE 7.

GROUP 3 $300,000 THE BART CUMMINGS. 2500-metres.

SELECTIONS: 1 ALMANDIN; 4 Amelie’s Star2; 9 Crocodile Rock; 3 Harlem.

BEST ROUGHIE: 5 BROADSIDE.

SUGGESTED BET: ALMANDIN to win.

ALMANDIN won last year’s Melbourne Cup, then first-up huge 2nd Pacodali, before amazing runaway win Flemington last time. Looks the winner again. AMELIE’S STAR kept closing late when 4th Harlem, Caulfield. Fitter now after four runs back from a break, ready for this trip now. Very strong stayer. CROCODILE ROCK was good when close 2nd Ubin Thunderstruck before very brave effort when 2nd Almandin, Flemington last time. Chance again.

RACE 8.

GROUP 2 $200,000 BLAZER STAKES. 1400-metres.

SELECTIONS: 4 SWORD OF LIGHT; 9 Missrock; 16 Petition; 1 Prompt Response.

BEST ROUGHIE: 5 ECKSTEIN.

SUGGESTED BET: SWORD OF LIGHT each-way.

SWORD OF LIGHT raced on-speed throughout last time when brave winner G2 Let’s Elope. This similar task, similar field, rises 2kg. Go close again. MISSROCK racing well, suited this trip now, good gate critical, hard to beat. PETITION followed first-up 3rd Sandown with closing 2nd Merriest, Caulfield dry track. Racing well, genuine chance here. PROMPT RESPONSE is a class Sydney mare, fitter now after first-up run, this trip ideal.

RACE 9.

LISTED $120,000 PARIS LANE HANDICAP. 1400-metres.

SELECTIONS: 4 CHARMED HARMONY; 11 Mongolian Wolf; 13 Pure Pride; 1 Burning Front.

BEST ROUGHIE: 14 LOVANI.

SUGGESTED BET: Box Quinella/Trifecta: 1 – 4 – 11 – 13 – 14.

CHARMED HARMONY likes to lead, ran 4th in the Bletchingly before 2nd to Hartnell in the Lawrence. As long as the track is not too hard, he’ll be tough to beat. MONGOLIAN WOLF is first-up, is unbeaten 2 from 2 fresh, not race since 9th in Qld Derby. Watch very closely. PURE PRIDE may be a surprise packet here, has the ability but rarely has a lot of luck. Ran on well last time, again. Respect. BURNING FRONT fitter, very good when right, chance.
