The prospect of another rain-affected surface need not deter punters with no less than six individual Group 1 winners set to contest The BMW (Race 6) over 2400m at Rosehill on Saturday.

Significant early money has seen us forced to cut our price on the Freedman-trained Our Ivanhowe(pictured above), who is on the seven-day back-up after a dominant win over Hartnell in the Ranvet Stakes here last weekend.

While Chris Waller will be represented by Who Shot TheBarman, Grand Marshal and Libran, all of whom are on a path to the Sydney Cup, the rest of the field is compwrised largely of horses from Victorian stables looking for a raid on the harbour city.

Having captured his first ever Sydney winner on protest with Big Duke, trainer Darren Weir will be looking to go one step further and land a major there with Australian Cup winner Humidor.

While Preferment was able to complete the Australian Cup-BMW double 12 months back, it’s worth noting that this horse produced arguably the worst run of his career at his only previous go over a mile-and-a-half when beaten seven lengths in the 2016 NZ Derby.

With the track currently rated a Heavy 10 having taken a hammering from Slipper day, jockey Hugh Bowman conceded that it’s likely to impact the chances of leading mare Jameka, who has produced three creditable runs this preparation without finding a winner’s cheque.

The opposite is probably true of Tavago, who enjoyed a welcome return to form in the Sky High, is proven at the trip and is said to be ‘absolutely flying’ in the words of his unabashed trainer Trent Busuttin.

Despite Fiveandahalfstar’s win back in 2013, three-year-old’s don’t have a great recent record in this WFA event with Crown Oaks winner Lasqueti Spirit left to represent that age group.

She’s an underrated filly who gave a good account of herself behind Winx in the Chipping Norton on a heavy track recently and will surely come under the eye of each-way players.

Ultimately, this is a race for favourites with the last five winners starting at odds of 4.40 or less, so that’s where punters should focus much of their interest.
