Elimination finals don’t get much bigger than this. Sydney Swans will host Essendon in a Saturday’s twilight fixture and it’s sure to be an epic clash. The Swans are considered to be a top premiership chance but the Bombers have good form against the Swans only having lost to them in the final seconds the last time these two sides met.

The Bombers have the biggest task of all but then again they have nothing to lose and nobody expects them to beat Sydney.

That includes me.

Sydney have been mercurial over the past month.

They destroyed Geelong, Adelaide, Fremantle and Carlton.

They’ve lost two games since round 6, both to the same team. Both by one goal.

Buddy kicked 10 in his last game.

There’s too much firepower for Essendon.

The Bombers will need Joe Daniher to do something he’s never done before, kick 10 or 15 goals for them to win.

No disrespect, but if the ladder was based on the last 16 rounds, the Bombers are 9/16 and probably 8th.

The Swans 14/16 and three games clear of the rest.

I can’t see that changing because of the bye.

They have the option of Dan Hannebery and Tom Papley coming straight back in.

Harry Cunningham misses out, the only issue perhaps is the ruck scenario but Kurt Tippett has played himself back into form and Callum Sinclair has to stay.

The Bombers’ backline will get some traffic coming their way and while I think their season has been terrific and I’m happy they’ve made the finals, they won’t be going anywhere soon.

There also won’t be a Gary Rohan moment like last when the Bombers caught the Swans napping.

The Verdict

Sydney by at least 40 but don’t get greedy, take them at the price which is only 1.18 but Sydney to lead at every break at 1.71 looks nice to me.

If they lead at quarter time, then bang.
