The Vince Lombardi trophy goes on the line in Super Bowl 52 on Monday morning. The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to create their own slice of history as they go up against the New England Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl 39. The Eagles will be wanting to go one better this time around.
New England Patriots
The Patriots ($1.52) are overwhelming favourites after stealing a win against the Jaguars. Tom Brady has proven to be the difference again this year. The partnership of Brady and coach Bill Belichick is unrivalled in the modern game. Brady has an impeccable record on the game’s biggest stage; with the Patriots winning the last three championships. If the Patriots are successful Brady will collect his sixth Super Bowl ring.
The Eagles head into the showdown with the Patriots as outsiders at $2.65. Despite losing Carson Wentz the Eagles were impressive in accounting for the Vikings. Philly are hunting for their first title since 1960. Backup quarterback Nick Foles has a shot at history. Foles has spent most of the season on the bench behind Carson Wentz. If Philly can overcome the Patriots, it will be one of the feel-good stories of the season.
The Eagles rush defence holds the key to landing the title. History has shown that Brady and the Patriots are not invincible. The Eagles have been one of the most effective defences this season. They forced three turnovers in the NFC Championship against the Minnesota Vikings.
If the Patriots are able to collect their sixth championship, then Brady will be in the centre of the action. With four Super Bowl MVPs, Brady is top of the market to add another at $1.67.
If Philly are able to complete their Cinderella season, then QB Nick Foles has a real shot at the MVP. Foles is good value for MVP honours at $6.
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is the favourite for the first touchdown at $8. Growkowski missed last the Patriots come from behind victory over the Falcons last season. Patriots wide-receiver Brandin Cooks ($10) also represents some good value for the first touch-down.
Whoever wins the battle between the Eagles defence and the Patriots offence will get their hands on the trophy. The Patriots have faltered in the decider before, but last season showed it’s tough to get past Tom Brady.
The Patriots are still the team to beat and are on track to record a tough win against the Eagles.
