Well it’s that time of year again where Mate V Mate and State V State comes to life.
QLD are taking on the old enemies in NSW in game 1 of the three game series.
There were a few selection surprises when the teams were read out last week, no more than the non selection of The Great Billy Slater. This has caused a massive media storm and NSW are really making the most of the controversial decision. The once rock solid QLD rugby league fraternity is now seen as falling apart due to the non selection of the great man. This may be the case but when it comes to Wednesday night and the referee blowing the whistle for kick off the name Billy Slater will all be forgotten.
NSW also had a couple of players that only weeks before had played for Australia be a non selection for their state. I know I have been a little biased over the years towards NSW but I feel this may be the year they can redeem themselves and get off to a win in the opening game of the series.
I feel the side Laurie Daley has picked has enough muscle up front with enough class out wide to really take it to this Champion QLD side that has dominated NSW for more than a decade. Also taking into account the recent news of the great Jonathon Thurston not being able to take his place to continue his 36 consecutive Origins, I feel NSW will get across the line in a torrid but close encounter.
The 2 future immortals that I have mentioned in both Billy Slater and JT have had major roles in the dominance of QLD for many years and the fact they wont be there for game 1 may be enough to get NSW over the line.
