THE Carnival continues in Sydney with another standout meeting highlighted by the Group 1 $500 Spring Champion Stakes for the three-year-olds:

RACE 1.

$100,000 BRMM HANDICAP. 1400-metres.

SELECTIONS: 6 SPARKY LAD; 2 Regent; 1 Goodfella; 9 Cabeirian.

SPARKY LAD got out to 1400m for the first time at start three when runaway winner last time. Shows good potential, this trip ideal, go close. REGENT Godolphin runner, has run second at both race starts this prep, both Warwick Farm. Ready to win. GOODFELLA ran 2nd in G3 McLachlan, 4th in Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Fitter after first-up run. Respect. CABEIRIAN Qld raider, won past two in weaker grade impressively. Watch.

RACE 2.

$100,000 IGA LIQUOR HANDICAP. 2000-metres.

SELECTIONS: 4 UP ‘N’ ROLLING; 2 Alward; 1 Singing; 3 Veladero.

BEST ROUGHIE: None.

SUGGESTED BET: UP ‘N’ ROLLING to win.

ONLY four runners now. UP ‘N’ ROLLING has good record, won 2 of past 3, second the other. Last start good run 2nd Alward, drops 3kgs now, go close. ALWARD in hot form, has won 3 of past 4, last time beating Up ‘N’ Rolling. Drops 1.5kgs. SINGING French import, fitter now after first-up 5th Wyong Cup. Smart when right, watch very closely. VELADERO fitter now after two runs back. Always competitive.

RACE 3.

$100,000 ADINA APARTMENTS HOTEL HANDICAP. 1600-metres.

SELECTIONS: 3 INTERLOCUTOR; 6 Mapmaker; 1 Hogmanay; 2 Darci’s Affair.

BEST ROUGHIE: 7 SPRING TYCOON.

SUGGESTED BET: INTERLOCUTER to win.

INTERLOCUTER was heavily backed, first across the line, lost on protest behind Wayanka last time. Fitter, this trip really suits now, hard to beat. MAPMAKER is racing in hot form, last start was impressive winner similar grade, 1500m Rosehill. Go close. HOGMANAY doesn’t win very often but rarely far away. Good run 2nd Sir Plush last time. Chance.

RACE 4.

$60,000 TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP. 1600-metres.

SELECTIONS: 3 SCHEDULE; 10 Dia De Reyes; 4 Cascata Rossa; 9 Mar Nero.

BEST ROUGHIE: 5 HALBERD.

SUGGESTED BET: SCHEDULE each-way.

SCHEDULE has won 3 of 9 with four other placings, ran 4th My Tagoson, Randwick before 3rd in Dubbo Cup last time. Fit now, hard to beat. DIA DE REYES ran solid 2nd on the Sunshine Coast before eye-catching 4th Doomben in Brisbane last time. This trip ideal, chance. CASCATA ROSSA followed Ipswich 4th with solid win Gold Coast. This harder but on the way up still.

RACE 5.

$100,000 BOWERMAN’S OFFICE FURNITURE HANDICAP. 1400-metres.

SELECTIONS: 9 SIR PLUSH; 1 Mighty Lucky; 2 Burning Passion; 10 Souchez.

BEST ROUGHIE: 4 DUCA VALENTINOIS.

SUGGESTED BET: Box Quinella/Trifecta: 1 – 2 – 4 – 9 – 10.

SIR PLUSH was dominant at Rosehill last time when led throughout, gave nothing else a chance. Stays down in the weights in better race, hard to beat again. MIGHTY LUCKY marvellous old galloper, resumed in G2 Theo Marks then major improvement 2nd G2 Shannon behind Washington Heights. Go close on that run. BURNING PASSION very honest, always competitive, last time 3rd Comin’ Through G3 Bill Ritchie.

RACE 6.

GROUP 2 $300,000 ROMAN CONSUL STAKES. 1200-metres.

SELECTIONS: 3 VIRIDINE; 4 Snitzcraft; Single Bullet; 5 Beau Geste.

BEST ROUGHIE: 7 ALBUMIN.

SUGGESTED BET: VIRIDINE to win. Quinella: 3 – 4.

VIRIDINE is unbeaten 3 from 3, resumed with most impressive win Listed Heritage at Randwick. Looks very smart, hard to beat. SNITZCRAFT interesting Qld visitor, never been beaten on firm ground (3 from 3), last time led throughout for easy win in good race. Rates highly. SINGLE BULLET was very good 2nd Viridine in Listed Heritage first-up. Fitter. BEAU GESTE has won 2 of 3, last time powered home to win Rosehill. This harder but winning form always good form.

RACE 7.

GROUP 1 $500,000 SPRING CHAMPION STAKES. 2000-metres.

SELECTIONS: 1 ACE HIGH; 3 Tangled; 2 Astoria; 4 Sanctioned.

BEST ROUGHIE: 8 LANGLEY.

SUGGESTED BET: ACE HIGH to win.

ACE HIGH was left alone in front last time when a brave and impressive winner in the G3 Gloaming at Rosehill. This Group 1 level now but he has the class. TANGLED was first-up when kept closing eye-catching 4th Ataraxia, Listed Dulcify. Stable has timed prep perfectly, hard to beat now. ASTORIA won G3 Spring Stakes Newcastle before 4th Ace High last time. Worth another chance as is stable-mate SANCTIONED who ran 2nd to Ace High last time.

RACE 8.

GROUP 3 $150,000 ANGST STAKES. 1600-metres.

SELECTIONS: 2 DIXIE BLOSSOMS; 1 Daysee Doom; 4 Dawn Wall; 3 Imposing Lass.

BEST ROUGHIE: 13 SAVAPINSKI.

SUGGESTED BET: DIXIE BLOSSOMS each-way.

DIXIE BLOSSOMS ran 4th first-up G2 Theo Marks behind Deploy before charged home close 2nd Daysee Doom, G2 Gold Pendant. Hard to beat. DAYSEE DOOM also in hot form, was 3rd G3 Sheraco first-up before narrow but brave win G2 Gold Pendant last time. Hard to beat again. DAWN WALL was 2nd first-up before 5th Washington Heights, G2 Shannon last time. Fitter, well worth another chance. IMPOSING LASS has strong claims here as well.

RACE 9.

$100,000 METROPOLITAN CIVIL CONTRACTORS HANDICAP. 1200-metres.

SELECTIONS: 10 PIRACY; 4 Firsthand; 12 Redouble; 3 Just Dreaming.

BEST ROUGHIE: 3 JUST DREAMING.

SUGGESTED BET: PIRACY each-way.

PIRACY promising Godolphin runner, has now won past three impressively, this harder again but he looks very smart. Hard to beat. FIRSTHAND has an imposing record won 4 of 8, won Rosehill in June, spell, two good trials, go well first-up. JUST DREAMING is first-up, 4 wins 3 seconds from 9 starts. Very smart, rates highly fresh. REDOUBLE is resuming, form before break good enough.
