Spring Carnival racing heats up at Randwick on Saturday and the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, run over 1200m, is one of the feature races on the card. We take a look at the key runners and provide our tips and value bets.
The top three placegetters, from the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m), meet again. Viridine was an impressive winner of that Listed race at Rosehill comfortably over Single Bullet and Albumin.
Chauffeur ($5.50): Made up some ground, behind Trapeze Artist, over the latter stages of the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m). Fitter for his third run from a spell, drops in class and distance.
Single Bullet ($4.40): Ran a super ace when resuming. Raced handy, but had trouble securing a run in the straight and finished second to Viridine in the Heritage Stakes (1100m). Beaten 1.3 lengths, but should have finished closer, sure to be improved by the run.
Viridine ($2.90): Unbeaten colt and took his winning tally to three when he won at Rosehill last start. He overraced in the middle stages and is obviously is still learning the caper, but looks highly promising and will have taken improvement from that run.
Snitzcraft ($8.50): Queensland raider and comes here off an easy win at Ipswich last start. A speedy Snitzel colt that was far from disgraced in Brisbane Listed and Group races before a spell.
Albumin ($9.50): Extra 100m should help his chances after he finished off strongly behind Viridine last start. Was well backed at odds and should continue to improve as races get longer.
