The Japanese should always be respected when down under and punters have launched into one in the Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Brave Smash is a blacktype performer from Japan making his Australian debut for the Weir camp off the back of a lovely jump out at Mortlake late July. $6 was a tempting price and the punters agreed. He is now into $3.50.

He is the new favourite now, with Vega Magic now at $4.80 but he has been popular too, in from $5.50. In form mare Schism, off a slight freshen up, is friendless, out to $11 from $9.

Godolphin galloper Souchez has also been easy. He opened $7 and is now at $8.50 given the money for Brave Smash.
