The Group 1 Doomben 10,000 is set to jump on Saturday and despite a strong field, punters are only interested in one galloper.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding Redzel ($7.00) has been in fine form of late, taking out the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes in his latest start. Prior to that he placed second to Saturday’s favourite Russian Revolution in Group 1 The Galaxy, but will meet the colt 2.5kgs better at the weight.

That weight relief has clearly resonated with punters, who have gone after the four-year-old in a big way. He currently holds over half of all stakes wagered on the race, which is telling given the quality of the field.

Race favourite Russian Revolution ($3.20) has largely been left alone, while there’s been a bit of interest for $13 Derryn, and last year’s winner Music Magnate at $6.50.

Saturday’s other major attraction is the Group 1 South Australian Derby at Morphettville and the story there is much the same – with the Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zara-trained Odeon ($3.20) also holding just over half of all stakes wagered on the race.

The three-year-old gelding and race favourite has been in stunning form since returning from a spell, racking up three wins and a place in his four starts.

His biggest win to date was the $100,000 Mornington Guineas, but punters clearly think he has what it takes to score his first ever Group 1 victory.
