Well what a game we have coming up. Origin football never disappoints.
I know we say it every year but it’s going to be the best game ever. Lets hope so. So many bragging rights riding on this game for all league lovers in QLD and NSW. QLD are wanting to continue their dominance and NSW are wanting to start their own… This makes for an epic encounter.
Going into game 2 not many punters were predicting QLD to win after NSW’s dominant display in game 1 winning 28-4 in enemy territory. But QLD did what they have been doing for the last 30 odd years by pulling a rabbit out of their hat. Just when you write those Cane toads off they come back to bite you and that’s exactly what they did a couple of weeks back at ANZ stadium winning 18-16. Im not sure if NSW were a little cocky but any team with the likes of Smith, Slater, Thurston and Cronk involved can never be written off. Im still scratching my head how QLD once again pulled off a miracle win against all odds.
Once again the so called experts are saying NSW SHOULD win but the fact the game is being played at Suncorp stadium in front of 55,000 screaming QLDs tells me it wont be all smooth sailing. With no Jonathon Thurston due to the shoulder injury he sustained in game 2, like the experts I’m leaning towards NSW. JT played with 1 arm and still got the Maroons home. Young Cameron Munster has been given the green light to pair with Cooper Cronk in the halves. Knowing Cameron, he won’t be overawed with the Origin arena. He is a superstar in the making if he isn’t already. NSW dominated game 2 but ended up on the wrong side of the score board. I feel they would have learnt a lot from game 2 when they had numerous chances to close the game out but didn’t. I doubt we will see a similar performance like that in game 3. I feel Mitchell Pearce will be out for a big game after going missing in game 2 as will the likes of Maloney, Hayne and Fafita. Out of the 160 mins of Origin football played in 2017 NSW have dominated 90% of the play but find themselves in a winner takes all contest for game 3. Rugby League can be a funny game at times, you can dominate the game but end up losing if you don’t take your chances which is exactly what happened to NSW in game 2.
There has been an injury cloud surrounding NSWs inspirational skipper Boyd Cordner but reports are he will take the field. So with NSW at full strength and QLD down a future immortal in JT I feel NSW will win game 3 and the series in a very close encounter.
