Newcastle United v Tottenham | Sunday, August 13, 10.30pm (AEST), St James’ Park, Newcastle
I’m delighted and so happy for the Geordies to be shouting their team on in the EPL this season.
Always big dreams and a desire to win trophies from the supporter base but getting off to a steady start is important.
Championship sides coming up need to feel like they deserve to be there and that first win is so important.
The quicker they get it the quicker they settle but Newcastle are coming up against a red-hot Tottenham who I think can go very close to winning it this season.
Rafa Benitez brings great experience to the Magpies and he has certainly won the fans over.
Newcastle played a good brand of football last season and the challenge now is can they do it this season and get the results doing it?
Tactically, they’re very good and that should have Newcastle set for a steady season and one in which they can build on.
Time will tell if this is the year the Spurs take that quantum leap and win that title.
Tottenham seem to be a club which is purring along nicely and is doing and saying all the right things.
Pocchetino seems to be sharp and a real thinker of the game.
He seems to have given that thoughtfulness to his already talented group of players and they’re exciting and playing some great football.
Tottenham are a team who haven’t had to spend in the market yet which means they have a settled group and a manager who doesn’t spent for the sake of spending.
I’m a little torn on this as I would love to see Newcastle start the campaign with a win but Spurs have looked good in pre-season and Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane have been impressive.
Tottenham will look like the winners but the atmosphere and unbelievable support from Newcastle will mean the teams will share the honours.
Newcastle United at $5.25
Draw at $3.80
Tottenham at $1.67
Tip: Draw at $3.80
Correct score: 1-1
