THE Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is one of the most prestigious fashion events on the Australian calendar.

Across the course of two months - October and November - each year, beautiful women flock from all points of the country to flaunt an array of different fashions - from the spring-inspired colours to the outlandish fascinators.

The most talked about and most prestigious Group One races are held in Melbourne during this time, with the Flemington Carnival containing “The Race That Stops The Nation” - The Melbourne Cup.

The Melbourne Cup is a day of bright spring colours - worn by both sexes - and of course no outfit is complete without a statement fascinator or an oversized sunhat.

Victoria Derby Day falls on the Saturday before the Melbourne Cup and attracts a slightly larger crowd mostly due to the fact it falls on the weekend.

Derby Day traditionally involves fashions of exclusively black and white, giving race-goers the chance to put their creativity to the test in producing an elegant outfit which catches the eye whilst still conforming to the black-and-white rules.

Crown Oaks Day falls on the Thursday following Cup Day and is traditionally referred to as “Ladies’ Day.”
