The Valley comes alive for the new racing season on Saturday with a fantastic nine-race card and we look forward to seeing everyone out here to enjoy a great day of winter racing at The Valley.
This is the first official meeting with our new major partner in Ladbrokes, with the course now a sea of red with the new signage. To celebrate we will be cutting a ribbon at 12.30pm with MVRC Chairman Don Casboult and Ladbrokes CEO Jason Scott to do the honours in the new Ladbrokes Lounge (previously the Pavillion Room).
The Listed Essendon Nissan McKenzie Stakes and SAJ Fruit Supply Carlyon Stakes are the two feature races of the day and both have assembled some intriguing fields. Last year’s winner of the Carlyon Stakes in Heatherly is back to defend her crown against some stiff competition which includes four-year-old filly Missrock and Winx’s half-brother in four-year-old colt El Divino. Son of Frankel, Frankel My Dear, adds plenty of interest to the McKenzie Stakes, with Tony McEvoy’s Azazel and Godolphin’s Bandipur heading the Ladbrokes Australia market.
Gates will open at 10.55am with the first race at 12.25pm, but make sure you get here early to see the future stars of the turf ride in Racing Victoria’s Ride To Time Finals from 11am. We will also have plenty of kid’s activities on course, all the AFL action on the big screen and the brand-new range of Valley and Cox Plate merchandise on sale.
The track is currently a Soft6 after some rain today and the rail is in the true position, with the track in immaculate condition given the break it has enjoyed.
