It has been somewhat of a lean Carnival so far when it comes to the royal blue and James Cummings, but punters are confident that Sanctioned can change that in the Gloaming Stakes (1800m) this Saturday at Rosehill.

The son of Teofilo did a really good job in defeat a fortnight back when chasing hard and finishing off well when second to Gold Standard, who goes around in the Golden Rose as a threat. He has been best backed in early betting, into $3.50 from $3.90 and did get down to $3.40 at one point.

Favourite for the race is Spring Stakes winner and stablemate Astoria at $2.60. He has been a bit easy in early betting, opening $2.40. That pair hold a decisive margin in betting over Sully, who is at $8.50, having eased half a point.

For value, the best backed has clearly been Ace High. He opened $17 and has firmed at every call, now into $10.
