Leading Victorian trainer Darren Weir is poised to claim the last Group 1 of the year with Black Heart Bart at Ascot on Saturday.
Weir saddles Black Heart Bart and the seven-year-old is $3.50 favourite, for the Kingston Town Classic, with online bookmaker sportsbet.
Top Sydney trainer Chris Waller has the second favourite It’s Somewhat ($4.60).
Local training partnership of Grant and Alana Peters has indicated WA Guineas winner Perfect Jewel will tackle the older horses. The three-year-old filly is $7.50 and just ahead of Tom Melbourne ($8.00).
“It’s a battle of the big guns trainers and Weir won this race last year with Stratum Star. Black Heart Bart showed he was back to his best with a close second in the Railway Stakes and with five Group 1 wins behind him he is the one to beat,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
