POWERHOUSE Essendon forward Michael Hurley has been cleared of any possible sanction from the AFL match review panel.

Hurley, 22, was closely scrutinised for a slightly "off-the-ball" hit into Western Bulldogs veteran Adam Cooney late iinto a NAB Cup clash at Etihad Stadium on Friday.

The league's match review analysts ruled that Hurley's contact was insufficient to warrant any further action.

Cooney had remmonstrated with the big Bomber after a forearm hit around his shoulders and neck, but play had continued and no free kick was awarded from match umpires.

Hurley's contact was assessed by the match review panel as a "force" below what would constitute a report.
