The Hawthorn superstar forward was set to captain the All-Stars team against the Tigers in Alice Springs on Friday after scans on Monday showed that there was some fluid on the top of his calf after a Baker's cyst behind his knee burst on Monday.
It is only a minor concern and it's more than likely that if it was a home and away season game Franklin would have been able to take the field, but the Hawks have decided to withdraw him from Friday's match to allow the fluid in the calf to subside.
Franklin was due to be captain and while he won't be leading the All-Stars team on the field on Friday, he will be involved still with the side in a coaching capacity helping out the coach, Michael O'Loughlin and assistants Roger Hayden, Adam Goodes and Shaun Burgoyne.
Franklin joins his Hawthorn teammates Cyril Rioli and Shaun Burgoyne in pulling out of the All-Stars side.
Rioli was previously ruled out with a corked quad injury on Monday but will also travel to Alice Springs to help out.
Burgoyne was also ruled out as he continues his rehabilitation from off-season ankle surgery.
Richmond will also be without Nathan Foley and former Port Adelaide defender Troy Chaplin, but will be led by new captain Troy Cotchin in his first match since taking over from Chris Newman.
