CONTROVERSIAL runner John Steffensen has been suspended for the second time in little more than two years for bringing track and field into disrepute.

The Athletics Australia board has banned the 2006 Commonwealth Games 400-metre champion from all international and domestic competition for six months, with the suspension to end on August 1.

An earlier investigation by an independent tribunal rejected claims of racial vilification and discrimination made by Steffensen before the 2012 Olympics.

Steffensen had previously been banned for three months in December 2010 for bringing the sport into disrepute.
