STAR West Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has confirmed he will almost certainly miss the rest of the domestic cricket season due to a torn hamstring.

Marsh ripped 90 per cent of his hamstring tendons off the bone during last Saturday's 14-run one-day loss to South Australia.

The 21-year-old will visit a specialist in Melbourne on Wednesday, and is likely to undergo surgery later this week.

Marsh predicts he will miss around four months of cricket, but has vowed to do everything within his powers to return as strong as ever.

"It's the first hamstring I've ever done so it came as a bit of a shock," Marsh said before boarding a flight out of Perth on Tuesday.

"It's really disappointing for me to be out for a long period of time now. But I've just got to be as positive as I can and get back as soon as I can."
