GWS have revealed the introduction to their new club song - with immediate comparisons to an eastern European national anthem.

Ahead of the Giants' appearance in the NAB Cup and historic AFL opener in four weeks time, the club used YouTube to roll out the first bars of the club song.

An upbeat tempo was coupled with a powerful melody, bringing to mind the Dockers' much-maligned song based on the traditional Russian folk song, the "Song of the Volga Boatmen".

Immediate reaction was not that positive from the Giants followers, with Facebook comments comparing the tune to the 'Kazakhstani national anthem', and the 'theme music from a Benny Hill episode'.

The reveal followed the Giants naming the team for the NAB Cup clashes with Collingwood and the Bulldogs, with eight players with AFL experience, including co-captains Luke Power, Phil Davis and Callan Ward, included.

The only AFL-experienced players on their list not included for the triple-header against Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs were ex-Port Adelaide ruckman Dean Brogan and former Carlton big man Setanta O'hAilpin.

Code-hopper Israel Folau is one of 12 Giants in the 34-man squad for the Blacktown fixture who have not previously played even in the pre-season competition, which the Giants entered last year.

While their No.1 national draft pick, Jonathon Patton, is absent through injury, No.2 pick Stephen Coniglio and No.3 choice Dom Tyson, along with fellow top-10 draftees Liam Sumner, Alan Tomlinson and Nick Haynes, were all selected.

The Magpies will rest a host of their stars, with captain Nick Maxwell, midfield gun Scott Pendlebury and key forward Travis Cloke among those on the sidelines.

Only nine members of Collingwood's losing 2011 grand final side were named in their squad, including Luke Ball, who will be acting captain.

The many youngsters included 208cm recruit Jarrod Witts, who the Magpies picked up under the NSW scholarship scheme.

The Bulldogs named a stronger squad.

But there were still some big names missing, most notably Brian Lake and Adam Cooney.

National draftees Clay Smith, Michael Talia and Tory Dickson were included.
