Forrest to make solid start

AN ANTICIPATED international debut for new Australian batsman Peter Forrest has been endorsed by top online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.

Forrest, 26, will start his first outing in green and gold at a short $2.25 to score more than 20.

He is rated $2 chance to avoid a duck and score up to 20.

Forrest was a surprise choice when national selectors named Australia’s initial 14-man squad for the triangular series against last year’s world cup one-day finalists India and Sri Lanka.

The right-hander was leading the Sheffield Shield competition runs list with 581 at an average of 58 when called into national duty and is tipped to make his debut against Sri Lanka in Perth on Friday.

Should he make his debut sportsbet.com.au is tipping Forrest to make a healthy fist of his first outing.

A first-up total of between 21 and 40 runs is close at $2.25, with 41 to 60 at $5.00 and then followed by 61 to 80 runs ($8.00), 101 or more runs ($10) and $12 to make between 81 and 100 runs.

Punters can also back how many sixes they think Forrest will hit with between none and two the $1.36 favourite, between three and five is next at $3.25 and 6 sixes or more is at $11.

Sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes says betting on Australia’s depends on where Forrest might be slotted to bat in the line-up.

“A lot will depend on where he bats should he get a game but there is plenty of value on offer for those who think he will spend some serious time in the middle,” Hawes said.

In match betting, Australia has shortened from $1.45 into $1.35 to beat Sri Lanka with the tourists drifting from $2.75 out to $3.15.

Australia remains the $1.43 favourite to win the triangular series while India has shortened from $4.00 to $3.75 and Sri Lanka has drifted from $7.00 out to $9.00.
