With veterans such as co-captain Jamie Lyon, Brent Kite, Glenn and Brett Stewart in the side, the clubs leadership stocks are at a premium.
With Toovey in his first year as coach of the NRL side, King said the senior members must stand up and help Toovey in his inaugural year as head coach.
“One of the strengths of this team is we have got a really good senior players group and we are brutally honest with each other,” King said.
“Sometimes that can be difficult but I think it’s a real strength of our team.
“Having a new coach, everybody’s 100 per cent behind Geoff and the senior guys especially ready and prepared to provide him with any advice or help him out anyway we can.
“It’s all about working together to achieve the common goal of winning football games.”
Last year, King’s season ended prematurely after tearing his pectoral muscle in a game against the Sydney Roosters in August.
Having an operation to address the injury, the New South Wales Origin forward missed last season’s premiership victory over New Zealand.
The 30-year-old, who extended his contract until the end of 2014, has since fully healed and is looking forward to returning to the field.
“I’m feeling good; I’ve done my rehab,” King said.
“(The injury has) had plenty of time to recover.
“I’ve done some tough training and ready to play.
“To draw some positives out of it, it’s given my body a longer rest than usual and helped me better prepare for 2012."
A premiership winner with the club in 2008, King has dealt with the emotion of missing the 2011 grand final last year and is ready to move into the new season with a clean slate.
”I sort of dealt with it when I got the injury,” he said.
“It was very important to miss that stage of the season.
"It was very important I remained positive and support the boys anyway I could.”
Motivated to play well for his teammates in the World Club Challenge against the Leeds Rhinos in less than two weeks, the trial game holds the importance of setting the pace for the season ahead.
The Sea Eagles travel to New Zealand in Round 1 for the grand final replay on a Sunday before backing up five days later on the Central Coast against the Wests Tigers.
“It’s going to be a good challenge for us,” King said of the travel.
“It will certainly tell us where we’re at straight away playing at some pretty hostile places for rugby league."
