Campese missed almost the entire 2011 season due to his return from a nine month injury lay-off ending in disaster.
After returning from a major knee injury, the play maker injured his groin and returned to the exile of the rehab room.
Alienated from his teammates, the pain of being alone has Campese vowing to support any Raider who suffers the same fate this year.
“Now I know how players feel who are in the same situation,” Campese said.
“Hopefully it doesn’t happen but if players in my squad happen to sit out the rest of the year through injury I will now take a bit of extra time to make them fit in because you do feel a bit of an outcast when it comes to being around the team.”
With little to no contact with his teammates through the week, Campese admitted to feeling isolated by the squad who were busy preparing for matches.
Fortunately for Campese, he had a number of distractions to keep him occupied.
He said the positive distractions off-field allowed the expectant Raiders captain to not get run down following his segregation from the team.
“I had a lot going on off the field,” he said.
“New baby, building a house and my wife is pregnant again so there wasn’t enough time to sit down and feel sorry for myself it was pretty much flat out all day every day.
"It would only hit home when you see the boys run out on game day and wish you were with them.
“It definitely came at a good time, as much I’d liked to be out on the footy field it was something to take my mind off it.
"Hopefully (the injury) never happens again.”
