GREATER Western Sydney's dominance has heightened secrecy about the AFL draft, with Port Adelaide unclear if their prime target will be available.

The Power have their sights set on South Australian Chad Wingard with their number six pick at Thursday's draft.

But GWS have the initial five picks, leaving Port's recruiting manager Geoff Parker uncertain whether Wingard will still be available.

"We're not 100 per cent sure," Parker told reporters on Tuesday.

"All the media talk is he will get to six.

"But normally in other drafts when there is a few other clubs involved you sort of get some whispers.

"But with everything going to GWS, they have been pretty secretive and a lot of us don't actually know."

Midfielder Wingard was SA's under 18 captain and played senior SANFL football this year.

Once touted a top three certainty, a slight form tailing towards the end of the season led to speculation the 18-year-old may slip to Port's pick six.

"Two months ago, I wouldn't have thought he'd be in the frame at (pick) six at all," Parker said.

"But the word is that he might be a chance, so we'll see how it all unfolds."

The Adelaide Crows' recruiting manager Matt Rendell said there was a chance Wingard would be available for Port's pick six.

"That would be a great pick, it would be good for him, good for Port if that was the case, but you never know," Rendell told reporters on Tuesday.

"Greater Western Sydney are going to dictate that but he's going to be a very good player."
