ASPIRING Carlton forward Luke Mitchell has been given the blessing of former superstar Brendan Fevola, after the new recruit was handed the old number of the ex-Coleman medallist.

The Blues’ number 25 will be worn by Mitchell, the first time is has been used since Fevola's contentious move from Visy Park following the 2009 season.

Also worn by Alex Jesaulenko, Mitchell was one of seven players handed their numbers by the Blues, with Matthew Watson to wear 10, Jeremy Laidler 15, Andrew Collins 16, Patrick McCarthy 24, Andrew McInnes 26 and Nick Duigan 34.

But it was the number 25 which carries the most expectation – with Fevola sending his best wishes from Brisbane to Melbourne.

“Hope the young fella has a great and long career at the blues best of luck to him,” Fevola tweeted.

“It was put away so all the mums and dads had time to take the two off and leave the Judd man's number five there.”

In other changes, Brock McLean will change his number from seven to 14 – to follow his grandfather Rod, who wore number 14 on 128 occasions between 1935 and 1946. Kane Lucas will move from number 24 down to number nine, the number he wore as a junior.
